A few weeks back, I had a wonderful time taking portraits of a dance teacher and former ballet dancer. We used two very simple and extremely contrasting lighting set-ups. To start with, I created a very high key, beauty look by engulfing her in light. I took a few head shots including some very close up ones.
Then the real fun started when I staged some more moody portraits. During processing, I overlaid a subtle texture on the background to add to the timeless feel. I considered working them in black and white, but decided to keep the colour on a couple, but reduce the saturation to create a look reminiscent of sepia photos, only with a modern twist.
