One afternoon in late autumn, I was visiting a friend in Mildura. She took me to the vineyard where she used to live and we spent time photographing the apricot orchard and grape vines. It was an unforgettable time spent engulfed in warm colour and the changing of seasons.
I was completely mesmerised by the shapes of the apricot leaves and the way in which they spring and cascade from the branches. Each leaf seems to have a life of it’s own, with crinkly, serrated edges turning this way and that.
The colour palette of the leaves is sweet and seems to be drawn from fruit - apricot, peach, pear and maybe just a touch of cinnamon on the branches for good measure.
The bare branches with their buds have a special beauty and walking through the mass of trees with the sunlight shining through the leaves was a wonderful experience.
