Colours of Burano
I recently visited the extraordinary island of Burano. It was a chilly winter’s morning and the town was quiet and peaceful. Of course, the bright houses are a photographer’s paradise and I am very partial to capturing details in architecture. The colours and textures are magnificent and I must admit that I failed with my aim of photographing every different coloured house partly because I lost track of which ones I had already captured and there were simply too many variations. As we moved away from the windy lagoon, the internal canals were still and displayed glorious reflections. I was struck by how consistent the residents of the small island have been at painting their houses such a huge variety of bright colours for so many years.
