“Black and white is abstract;

colour is not.

Looking at a black and white photograph,

you are already looking

at a strange world.”

—Joel Sternfeld

Technically not a colour, black is the absorption of all light and the most dominating and powerful ‘colour’ of all.

Rooms —

being such a strong colour with so many emotions and connotations it is best used in small amounts as an accent. It can evoke feelings of elegance, formality and rest but it can also be depressing. Not recommended for bedrooms.

Home Decor Styles —

as an accent in Contemporary, Traditional, Industrial, Boho and Rustic.

Mood —

used in small amounts for Wanderlust and Creative and black and white photography can be good for Nostalgic.

Sanctuary Tips —

can be used as an accent but not preferred for large pieces of furniture or other decor.
